Each stone varies. Apache tears are a variety of obsidian, a silica-rich, glassy volcanic rock with a water content of less than one percent. They are native to Mexico and the Southwest USA. It is said that their name derived from a story about an Apache Indian tribe pursued by cavalry. The Apache women grieved the deaths of their warriors and the tears solidified into the dark, teardrop shaped stones.

They are commonly used for grounding, protection and emotional cleansing. They also help strengthen stamina, help to vitalize and purify the blood and even boost the immune system.
